To the New World



The cook ladled muck into his bowl. Chains clanked as he felt for his meal in the stinking dark below decks. Far away now those baroque palaces and carriages.

“A nice cruise to Georgia for you, my lad,” the judge had smirked.

“Better than hanging,” the highwayman’s offhand reply.
